What’s Not to Love About Katy?

Posted on Wednesday, March 16, 2022

What is there to love about Katy, Texas? What isn’t there! From exceptional schools to family-friendly attractions, Katy has something for everyone.

The city with the small-town vibe has won numerous accolades, including being named the third-hottest neighborhood in the nation by Opendoors in 2022, the 2021 No. 1 retirement spot in Texas by SmartAsset and the best place to start a business by WalletHub in 2021.

Need more reasons? Here are a few:

The Schools

Katy ISD schools are exceptional and the main driver of the city’s growth. This year, Katy ISD was again ranked No. 1 in the Houston area and No. 13 in Texas out of 1,018 Texas school districts. Niche also ranked it No. 3 among Best School Districts for Athletes, No. 4 among Districts with the Best Teachers and No. 6 among the Most Diverse School Districts. The district serves approximately 90,000 students across 74 campuses. Students are frequently recognized for achievements in academics, fine and performing arts, service and athletics. Students score above the state average on mandated tests as well as the SAT and ACT.

When it comes to higher education, the University of Houston and Houston Community College both have campuses in Katy.

The Shopping

If you love to shop ‘til you drop, Katy is the place for you. Katy Mills is Houston’s only indoor outlet shopping destination. Boasting 165 stores, numerous restaurants, a movie theater and the Disney Junior Play Zone, it’s no wonder the mall is a tourist attraction. La Centerra at Cinco Ranch is a lifestyle center offering upscale shopping and dining. Even better, it’s dog-friendly. Katy also boasts boutique clothing stores, book shops and farmers markets.

The Attractions

The fun never ends in Katy. Typhoon Texas water park keeps families cool when temperatures rise. Concerts and movie nights under the stars can be enjoyed at Central Green Park. The MKT railroad museum is a popular spot for selfies. Head to historic Katy when you want to browse for antiques or sip a milkshake at a nostalgic soda fountain. Katy Vibes hosts local bands.

The Parks

Katy parks are great places to play. Mary Jo Peckham Park is designed for everyone — including children with disabilities Features include a large playground, both toddler and regular swing sets, a miniature golf course, picnic pavilion, gazebo, well-stocked fishing lake, a lighted walking trail, picnic tables, grills and a tropical fishpond. Cyclists love George Bush Hike-and-Bike Trails. Pampered pups can unleash their energy on the agility course at the 14-acre Katy Dog Park.

The Events

Katy is a tightknit community, so it’s no surprise that when the city hosts an event, residents turn out. The most popular is the three-day Katy Rice Festival. The Katy Old Fashioned Christmas Festival is another highly anticipated event. Katy lets the dogs out at the Howl-O-Ween Family Fest.

Sunterra

Many master-planned communities make their home in and around Katy, but none of them are like Sunterra because none of them have a Crystal Lagoons® amenity. Our planned lagoon will offer opportunities to splash, float and build sandcastles just steps away from all Katy has to offer.
