This year, Niche, a respected ranking review site, awarded Katy ISD the No. 2 spot on a list of the Best School Districts in the Houston area. The district also received A+ grades for college preparation and diversity. Academics, teachers, and clubs and activities received A’s. Out of the 1,019 Texas school districts Niche reviewed, Katy ISD ranked No. 15.
Rankings are based on the most recently available data from the U.S. Department of Education on graduation rates and SAT/ACT scores. Reviews from students and parents were also considered.
Katy ISD is no stranger to accolades. In 2019, the Texas Education Agency awarded the district an overall A rating. Only 301 out of 1,200 school districts received an A. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, the state waived accountability ratings for the 2019-2020 school year.
District ratings are based on performance in three areas – Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps. Districts earn an “A” for exemplary performance when they serve most students well and encourage high academic achievement and/or appropriate academic growth for students.
The fine arts program is another area the district excels in. Katy ISD has received the Best Communities for Music Education (BCME) award from the NAMM Foundation 17 years in a row. The designation recognizes school districts and schools for their support and commitment to music education.
Katy ISD was also honored by the Texas Art Education Association with a 2020 District of Distinction award for providing a well-rounded education that advocates and integrates a visual arts curriculum.
Happy employees are one reason students perform well. A fact that was recognized by Forbes magazine this year when it named Katy ISD one of the Best Employers in Texas. It was the only school district on the list and came in at No. 8.
